2024 Northern Arizona Lumberjack

Cross Country Camp

2024 Camp Registration is now live!

The Northern Arizona Lumberjack Cross Country Camp is the premier high school running camp in the country, providing a world-class camp experience in the famed running mecca of Flagstaff, Arizona.

Year after year, the camp provides a unique opportunity for high school athletes (grades 9-12) to experience training alongside the six-time NCAA Division I Cross Country National Champions, and to learn from the amazing coaches and athletes who make such performances possible.

The 2024 camp also offers campers the chance to learn from high performance experts versed in working with world-class athletes, gain insight from the professional and Olympic runners who call our mountain town home, and form lifelong friendships with runners from all over the nation. Our program is designed for young runners to thrive in a camp environment based on specialized training, continued running education, and the individualized guidance necessary to produce not only successful athletes, but successful people.

We’re sorry but no – the camp is for incoming 9th-12th grade athletes so graduated seniors may not attend.

There is currently no hard deadline as of now but, due to its popularity and judging from the history of running the camp, it will fill up and we will end up having to put late registrants on our wait list. So the sooner you register, the greater chance you will have of getting in.

All campers will stay on campus at NAU in Mountain View Hall. There are four people to each suite, two people on each side with a shared bathroom. Males and females will be segregated by floor and each wing of each floor will have same-gender chaperones (the NAU runners serve in these roles). The address to the dorm is: 216 E Mountain View Dr, Flagstaff, AZ 86011.

During the summer, the “Simple Servings” platform in both of the main university dining halls will offer alternative options that take into account some of the common allergens (wheat, eggs, milk, nuts, soy, etc.). Staff on site at the dining halls will also be able to work with participants on any additional special needs and to assist with better understanding of the options and different platforms.

Full linens will be provided at the dorm but campers can bring a sleeping bag and pillow if they would like. In addition, all campers should bring:

  • TWO pairs of running shoes. If you have a cross country or road racing flat it may be nice for some of our workouts!
  • Plenty of running apparel: short and long sleeve shirts, shorts, tights, light jacket, and SOCKS (2 pairs of socks per day is a good rule of thumb)
  • Warmer clothes (think beanies, sweatpants, pullovers, warm socks). Summer nights can get a bit chilly at 7,000 feet!
  • Rain jacket
  • Casual shoes / Sandals
  • At least TWO water bottles.
  • Sunglasses & sunscreen (the sun is INTENSE at altitude)
  • Bathroom toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, etc)

For campers needing transport in and out of Flagstaff from the Phoenix airport, we suggest you use Groome Transportation’s shuttle service. Shuttles between Phoenix airport and Flagstaff run regularly all day long, every day of the week, and are both inexpensive and extremely safe. Please see the schedule via the link below and have your camper disembark from the shuttle at the “University North” stop. To learn more and schedule a ride: https://groometransportation.com/flagstaff/

From the University North shuttle stop, campers will be able to easily walk to the dorm in just a few minutes (it is to the East on the opposite side of the 400m track). The address to the dorm is: 216 E Mountain View Dr, Flagstaff, AZ 86011.

A: Taxis, Uber and Lyft all service the Flagstaff airport. Travel time between the airport and the NAU campus is only 10 minutes.

For parents dropping their young athletes off for camp, or for athletes driving in to camp and planning to park on campus for the duration of the camp, please see the following dedicated information sheet.

Full payment is required for all campers. $250 of paid registration fees shall serve as a non-refundable deposit. Payments made within 30 days of start of camp are non-refundable.

Mike and his staff were incredible and made a lasting impression with my son. Thank you for not another run-of-the-mill camp, but for making it about community. The Flagstaff Running Camp helped me prepare for my cross country season by giving me skills and techniques that I can use to run better races. — Rosario P, North High School Varsity Cross Country

I learned the importance of patience and recovery during camp. Also how to be consistent in my training! — Abdi N, 2016 Arizona Cross Country State Champion, former NAU standout athlete, and collegiate record holder in the 5000 meters
